Never sold in North America, if you’re there.
I haven’t seen one for many years.

Wish i had driven one, I’m sort of a Daf fan(I know this is a Volvo but cut me some slack), since it is the only car we every properly produced here in the Netherlands. Which engine did the one you drove have?

Did the Volvo 66 ever have Variomatic or whatever it was called?

Yes, it did. Since it was the first Dutch designed car Volvo built, it was just a Daf 66 with a different grill, bumpers and interior, the rest remained the same, so a Renault engine with Variomatic. Funnily enough Volvo continued designing their smaller cars and later FWD platforms here in the Netherlands, only 30 kms from me, until the early 2000's.

Nedcar right? Afaik they built several cars there such as the Ford Focus and Volvo S40. I think the plant belongs to BMW now.

Yep that’s it! They built the Volvo S40 and the Mitsubishi Carisma, which shared a platform, after which Mitsubishi took the factory over and built things like the Colt, Outlander and the Smart ForFour. The plant isn’t owned by BMW now however. Mitsubishi sold it to VDL, a production company mostly known for its busses, for €1,-. Now they build the Minis under a contract, similar to how Magna Steyr used to build the Countryman.

There’s someone on a local forum who was trying to get one of these for ages. He almost got one from Seattle, but it turned out to be critically rusty. I think he wound up getting an AMC Matador instead....or maybe it was one of his Skodas. Or the AMX. I can’t really keep up with his cars lol

1935 V12 Packard Phaeton Sedan. 4MT, non-syncro. No power steering. No seat belts. Drum brakes. All awesome.

1289cc Renault.
My mother had the estate version as well.

Yes, it was a rebadged DAF. Twin rubber belts, a system used on the Volvo 343 later. Volvo then designed a manual box for the 343 as demand for the automatic was low.

Yes, rust was a thing with them. Our one was rusty a long time ago and they won’t have improved since.
